Week in Review (January 5th, 2025)

👽 Personal

  • I didn't apply to as many jobs as I would have liked this week. I think the weird holiday break really threw off some of the postings. I'm hoping to make better progress this upcoming week.
  • I've felt better this week than I have in a long time. I got back in touch with that authentic part of me that I like to write about. I spent a lot of time watching older movies and shows that I like, avoiding the news/Instagram, and just existing. My stress level is at the lowest it's been in quite some time, and I'm trying to enjoy it.
  • I had a rather strange New Year's Eve. I'm not much for watching the countdowns, but I found a VHS rip someone made of Nickelodeon in 1993 on New Year's Eve. So, I counted down to 1994 by enjoying old Nickelodeon shows. It was AWESOME.
  • My little Jupiter has been throwing up and suffering from an upset belly the past couple of days. I made her some boiled chicken and rice tonight, and I'm hoping she's going to recover soon. Her illness did bring out the best in her sister, who actually cuddled and slept with her instead of attacking her for the first time ever!

🏋️Healthy Living

  • I stayed under my calories every day this week.
  • I worked out, walked, or did yoga almost every day.

📺 Watched (A Glimpse at Some of the Stuff I Watched)

  • Battlestar Galactica (The Mini-Series and the first episode of S1) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - Yea... yea... I just finished my last re-watch of Battlestar Galactica a little over a year ago. I just need some bad-ass action and some Admiral Adama to make the day better.
  • Army of Darkness ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - It's been a long time since I sat down and watched Army of Darkness. I bought the 4K blu-ray last year to accompany my Evil Dead Groovy Collection, and I thought it was time to give it a watch. As usual, it's a fun, relaxing flick to watch that feels so disconnected from the first two Evil Dead movies it's almost bewildering that it's made by the same folks. I'm sure nostalgia factors into my rating quite a bit.
  • Creature Commandos (Episode 6) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - I liked this episode better than last week's episode, and I'm excited to see what happens in the finale this upcoming week.
  • VFW ⭐️⭐️⭐️ - I picked this film up on DVD a couple of months ago, and decided to give it a shot. It's a simple horror movie, with a slight grindhouse vibe and some great practical effects. It's low budget, and feels it, but I enjoyed this Assault of Precinct 13 style film.
  • Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Season One) ⭐️⭐️⭐️ - Okay, I skipped a few episodes but I've been in the mood to watch some Buffy and also to start watching my DVDs more. I had fun reconnecting with the Scooby Gang.
  • Tamara ⭐️⭐️⭐️ - This Canadian horror film has been on my list for many years. I finally watched it, and I enjoyed it for what it was. It's similar to Carrie, but it's not Carrie. Kudos for just the right amount of gore in a horror film for me.
  • Cabin in the Woods ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - Here is another film I haven't watched in a very long time. I actually think I enjoyed it more this time around than the last time I saw it. It does such a great job at dissecting the "teenagers spending a weekend in a cabin" storyline, while still telling a solid story. The ending has aged better and better for me.
  • Campfire Tales ⭐️⭐️⭐️ - I'm going to write more on this film later, but this was one of those direct to VHS horror anthologies of the 90s that I loved. It's gotten a remaster (although still no physical release) and I enjoyed revisiting it on Tubi.
